Speedboats are great, aren't they? Because as well as flitting across the water with the greatest of ease they conjure up glamorous images of Monaco, Miami Vice and David Hasselhoff's hairy chest (or is that just us?)
Sadly, in order to own one of these sweet machines you need to be either A) incredibly wealthy, B) a winner on Deal Or No Deal or C) Popeye's arch enemy. Which is a shame because there's nothing quite like captaining your very own speedboat across the beautiful briny sea. Except of course captaining your very own remote controlled speedboat across the local pond. And that's where the Stealth Speedboat comes in.
This large, ominous-looking vessel is frighteningly fast and makes other battery-powered RC boats look about as threatening as a soggy fishcake. Bearing more than a passing resemblance to the Batboat, the twin-motor Stealth has got speed written all over it (not literally, that would look silly) and its satisfyingly sexy aerodynamic lines help it achieve speeds of over 18 miles per hour.
You control the surprisingly maneuverable Stealth via a sturdy twin-toggle transmitter, while power comes courtesy of a rechargeable battery. A four-hour charge gives you up to 30 minutes to tear up the local waterways - we know that doesn't sound like a long time but the raw power of the Stealth more than compensates. Besides, any longer and those boat freaks who spend all day tinkering with their gas-powered vessels for 30 seconds of playtime might go crying home to mommy.

Despite its menacing appearance and awesome performance, the Stealth is extremely landlubber-friendly since its propellers automatically cut-off when removed from the water. In fact, the only thing you have to worry about with the Stealth is being spotted by anyone who believed you when you told them you owned a real speedboat!

"Lakes and summer usually mean you flailing around attempting to master the oars. Forget that and impress your lady with this radio-controlled speedboat, which motors along at up to 19mph. And it looks like the Batboat!"Nuts - Aug '05

My friend and I work as lifeguards at a local leisure centre and bought one of these between us. With the help of a couple of floatation aids as make shift ramp, we were able to make it jump from the main pool to the kids pool and back. Obviously after hours of course!!Glenn, Belfast - Feb '07
Bought one of these for my boyfriend last week. Watching him tear apart the box and hurriedly put the stickers on like it was his sixth birthday (it wasn't) - very cute. Standing by the side of a freezing cold lake in the pouring rain for an hour while he used bits of several trees to retrieve it from some reeds he'd driven it into at full pelt - not so endearing. It is ACE though.Rachel, Cheshire - May '09
This is a brilliant boat and it does the job. For the money you are going to spend it's fantastic choice. My little boy loves it ... but not more than daddy does. Battery life is short so it's better to buy the spare one.
Good value for money.Lukasz, Dartford - Apr '09
This boat runs rings around my mate's and his cost £90. When I used this when the rivers were flooding, his could not got upstream when my stealth boat steamed ahead. This is a brilliant boat well worth the money.Bryce, Suffolk - Dec '08
Does any one know if the boat will take the new longer lasting Ni Mh battery rather than the Ni CAD battery suplied with the boat.Firebox says: This product runs from 1800 milliamps, and a 7.2 volt battery, so if the Ni MH battery matches, then i don't see why not!

Stealth speed boat...wow, I got one of these some time ago as a gift, amazing! ive used it a few times now and still I havent got bored of it, however it does have its problems, firstly as im sure some other people will agree it has a short battery life, solved that problem today. I decided to check out my local hobby shop, "model active", they have a website which doesnt list the battery but if you ring them up and ask them to supply you a battery of the same specs youve got. They retail at about £11. 99. Other than this the boat is great and with the new battery you can get hours out of it.

What a machine!!!!!!! Decided, despite everybody's advice, to test it in the bath, it was amazing!!!!! I don't advise it though, unless you like to get soaked!
shame about the 5 hour charge time. Now where can I buy a second battery....Leo Main, Northchurch, Hertfordshire - Oct '07
I'm not sure if you put the batteries in the remote or the boat or both? Please can firebox clarify this for me.Firebox says: Good question Lance. You have the rechargeable battery in the boat and x8 AA batteries in remote.

I got the boat this morning, brilliant! It looks sleek & fast.
Stephen McCrum said that he tested it in the bath - not advised, so I just had to try it, just the same happened, brilliant buy. Buy now :-).Firebox says: Its now definately been established (by three different customers) that its not a good idea to test this product in the bath. You have been warned!

A fantastic boat, I received it earlier today and by the evening I was able to take it to the lake. It handles well and I am very impressed with the speed of it.
The three tiny criticisms I have are:
- Long charging time.
- The throttle is not proportional, it is either on or off.
- The charger does not have an LED on it so there is no way to know if it charging.D Harvey, Reading, Berkshire - Oct '06
