New Version:

The new third generation Firebox VoIP Cyberphone has a speakerphone feature for hands-free calls!

The Firebox VoIP Cyberphone range is Skype Certified It's good to talk, especially on the phone. The trouble is, contrary to the old saying, talk (on the telephone) is not particularly cheap, especially if it's long-distance.

Unless of course you invest in an amazing Firebox VoIP Cyberphone, a revolutionary new way to contact friends and family which doesn't cost the earth... In fact, it's FREE!

Our VoIP Cyberphone is a fully functional USB-powered telephone which comes bundled with Skype™, free software which uses new VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) technology to allow you to make free calls to other VoIP Cyberphones and obscenely low cost calls to landlines and mobiles all over the world.

Firebox VoIP Cyberphone All you need is an Internet connection: Broadband is best - although the system still works with a 56k dial-up - and you can start talking to the 208,000,000 people worldwide who have already signed up for Skype™.

All you do is put in the CD, plug the phone into the nearest USB socket and dial away. The awesome VoIP technology digitally converts your voice through your broadband internet connection and on to its final destination - be it a fellow Cyberphone owner, a normal landline or even a mobile phone - anywhere in the world. It's easier than... er, picking up the phone!

Firebox VoIP
Cyberphone

Our VoIP Cyberphone even gives you more features than your existing landline with a choice of ringing tones, missed call and contact lists, call length timing, conference calling, touch dialing and phone answering services all rolled into one!

But here's the best part: using our sleek little VoIP Cyberphone allows you to talk to fellow Cyberphone owners and Skype users for absolutely nothing. Nada. Nil. Zero. Zip. Zilch. Perfect if you've got friends and relatives all across the globe. But what about regular phone calls, we hear you ask? Not a problem, because even if the person you are calling doesn't have a VoIP telephone you can still use your CyberPhone to save money.

Firebox VoIP
Cyberphone

Firebox VoIP Cyberphone To give you an idea of how much you can save, a call to a mobile phone in the US costs a measly 1.2p per minute. No, really! Check out www.skype.com and see for yourself. There's no pesky subscription fee either. All you do is buy pay-as-you-go "SkypeOut credits" bought from their idiot-proof web page.

Firebox VoIP Cyberphone By now you're probably wondering what the catch is. Well in all honesty there isn't one. And if you're worried that VoIP conversations sound like they're being conducted via a pair of soup cans connected by string, worry not. Skype to Skype connections sound every bit as good as today's high quality cell phones.

Put simply, this technology is going to be huge. So if you've got a computer and you use the phone, what are you waiting for? The Firebox VoIP Cyberphone is most definitely for you!

Frequently Asked Questions:
  • Q. Are calls from one Cyberphone to another via Skype really free??
    A. Yup - that's right, there's absolutely no charge (apart from the cost of your internet connection of course).

  • Q. Why is Skype better than Net2Phone, ICQ, AIM, MSN, etc?
    A. Because it works! Most Voice-over-IP applications don’t work from behind firewalls and NAT (Network Address Translation) devices. Nearly all broadband users are behind a NAT or firewall and so they cannot use VoIP applications. Skype is not a typical VoIP application – it’s P2P Telephony! Because of its advanced design, Skype works behind nearly any firewall and NAT! more...

Several new techniques were also developed in order to avoid end-user configuration of gateways and firewalls, whose non-intuitive configuration settings typically prohibit the majority of users from communicating successfully. In short, Skype works behind the majority of firewalls and gateways with no special configuration. more...

  • Q. Can I receive calls from a domestic landline to my Firebox VoIP Cyberphone?
    A. Yes! All you need to do is sign up for the new SkypeIn service! Click here for more details

  • Q. What is the difference between a Firebox VoIP Cyberphone and a "soft phone"?
    A. A "soft phone" is the actual software application that runs on the PC to enable the phone call. The Firebox VoIP Cyberphone is a piece of hardware which interacts with software (in this case, Skype). In order to make calls using a "soft phone" you need some hardware to connect to the PC to talk through.

  • Q. Where can I get "soft phone" application software?
    A. The Firebox VoIP Cyberphone comes with a CD ROM containing a selection of soft phone applications!

  • Q. Do I need a Broadband Internet connection?
    A. No, as long as you have an Internet connection you should be able to make VoIP calls. The minimum recommended requirement is a 21k connection.

  • Q. What should I do if I experience problems with my Firebox VoIP Cyberphone?
    A. To contact support call +44 870 444 1230 between Monday and Friday or email support@VoIPVoice.com giving as much detail as possible. Please note that we are only able to deal with Firebox VoIP Cyberphone hardware support for your Cyberphone and not specific software support. For software support you should contact the relevant supplier - eg. Skype.

  • Q. Why does my Firebox VoIP Cyberphone work at home but not at work?
    A. Some businesses have very secure network environments with strict firewalls and barriers to stop you installing new software on your office PC. Check with your IT department or network administrator at work to see if this is the case. If you cannot install the Skype software you may not be able to use your Firebox VoIP Cyberphone at work.

  • Q. Can I use my Firebox VoIP Cyberphone UNIX or LINUX operating system?
    A. At present these operating systems are not fully compatible with Firebox VoIP Cyberphones as the drivers have not been released. As these drivers become available they will enable the Cyberphone to be used with Skype software

Currently the Firebox VoIP Cyberphone offers limited functionality with Linux systems: After downloading the latest version of Skype you can make and receive calls with your Cyberphone but must use the software provided to dial and pickup. Additional drivers will be released in the future to allow the full functionality, eg. auto-connect on phone pickup, keypad functionality.

  • Q. The keypad on my Firebox VoIP Cyberphone does not work with my telephone software?
    A. You may not have the Firebox VoIP Cyberphone driver installed. Insert the CD-Rom that accompanies the Firebox VoIP Cyberphone and install the driver.

  • Q. Are Firebox VoIP Cyberphones fully USB compliant?
    A. Yes, Firebox VoIP Cyberphones are USB1.1 compliant and have passed USB certification.

  • Q. Are Firebox VoIP Cyberphones Plug and Play?
    A. No, technically the Firebox VoIP Cyberphone phone requires an extra driver to make use of the keypad, ringer and status LED. Once this driver has been installed then it will not need to be installed again unless updated.

  • Q. Is an external power supply required?
    A. No, all Firebox VoIP Cyberphones are bus powered and source their power from the USB port on the PC.

  • Q. What audio sampling rates are supported?
    A. Firebox VoIP Cyberphones support a wide range of audio sampling and playback rates from 8KHz to 44.1KHz with 8, 16 and 24-bit resolution.

  • Q. Are Firebox VoIP Cyberphones full or half duplex?
    A. All Firebox VoIP Cyberphone handsets are full duplex.

  • Q. I cannot hear the other person or the other person cannot hear me during a VoIP call?
    A. This can be caused if;
    1. Your Firebox VoIP Cyberphone USB audio is muted.
    2. Your soft-phone application is not configured to use Firebox VoIP Cyberphone USB audio.
    3. You are accessing the Internet through a Firewall, Proxy or NAT system. Generally these allow outgoing data without interference, but with only 'recognized' data types being allowed back in. Hence they hear you but you can't hear them.
    4. The H.323 and SIP standards set out how Internet Telephone data needs to be handled by a Proxy Server, NAT and Firewall. Check with your system administrator to see if your systems are configured correctly.

  • Q. How do I find my IP address?
    A. For Windows 2000/XP open a DOS prompt window and type in IPCONFIG /all. This will then display various information about your PC's networking and connection devices such as Modems and NIC's (Network Interface Cards). Also, you can use www.ipchicken.com to quickly and easily see your IP address.

  • Q. I can't dial any numbers - what could be wrong?
    A. There could be several reasons for this:
    • If you have just installed the Firebox VoIP Cyberphone driver or integration try restarting your computer with the Firebox VoIP Cyberphone attached to your computers USB port.
    • Make sure there are no device conflicts in your computers Device Manager.

  • Q. Can I add my Free Credit Voucher to my existing Skype account?
    A. Yes. Simply add the Voucher code when you log in and it will add this credit to your account. Here is a link to the page: https://secure.skype.com/store/voucher/redeem.html
Please note:
If you find that you 're having trouble making your speakers work using Windows XP then follow the instructions below:
  1. Navigate to Control Panel/ Sounds and Audio Devices/ Audio and set Sound Playback and Sound Recording to Default (or other chosen) devices (not to VoIP Phone as instructed in manual)
  2. Go to Skype/ Tools (not File, as shown)/ Options/ Sounds Devices- Set to VoIP Phone etc

SkypeOut
If this was a perfect world, there'd be no yodeling, we wouldn't be ashamed of our love handles and everyone would be using Skype to talk for free.

Unfortunately the world is far from perfect, and not everyone has Skype yet. That's why we have SkypeOut, a low cost way to make calls from Skype to friends who still use those traditional landlines or mobile phones. That means calling anyone, anywhere in the world at local rates.

Skype Voicemail
Sometimes talking on Skype isn't possible when the person you're trying to call is offline or busy. That's why we have Skype Voicemail.

Skype Voicemail allows you to send voicemail messages to anyone on Skype. It is like sending an IM but with the sound on. You can record messages and send them to your friends without disturbing them. You can pick up messages when you're away or busy on another call, and you can keep the messages for as long as you like. In fact, you don't have to be online at all for someone to leave a message. People will be able to contact you when you're sleeping, walking the dog, mowing the lawn, knitting, playing with the cat, ignoring people, practicing your tap dancing and we could go on here. When you can't or don't have the time to talk or pick up the phone, Skype Voicemail does it for you.

visitor avatar This is free! (aside from my at&t bill). A great buy! Thanks Fireboxs!

visitor avatar Does this phone, or any of the Skype phones on offer for that matter, work on Macs? Mac skype users feel underappreciated!
Zing, London - Mar '07
Firebox says: Yes it does, on specific ones, see http://www.skype.com/help/faq/macosx.html for more information. We appreciate you!

visitor avatar The Cyberphone K does work well with both Linux and Windows although there is now no sign of software for Linux. After repeated requests on the Voipvoice forums (no longer available at forums.voipvoice.com) by users, the current position appears to be "there is no date avbailable for linux integration software". So it works on Linux but don't expect to see full functionality at any time soon.

visitor avatar I've had this for ages now and it's been great, I've been using it for online gaming which has been good, but the resultant crick in my neck hasn't been much fun! I'd like to buy a headsetand mic to plug in to it (leaving sound channels for the game) but there's no specification I can find on the headset jack either here or on VoipVoices website. Is it just a tiny headphone jack or will it take something that lets me plug in a full microphone/headphone headset?
Steve Craig, East Lothian - Jun '06
visitor avatar Awesome piece of kit. Setup was really easy with skype. After a bit of jiggery pokery and posting at http://ukvoiptalk. Com I manged to get it to work with my other SIP VoIP providers too!

visitor avatar I've recently moved to Montreal as an international student from the UK. In order to keep in touch with my parents and friends back home I (and they) invested in a VOIP phone, we love it ! Its awesome, you get the occasional crackle, but its basically crystal clear (and thats a big ocean separating us!) A wonderful product I can't imagine life without VOIP and Skype. A+.
Christopher Lewis, Montreal, Quebec, Canada - Dec '05
visitor avatar Wow! I ordered this on Monday, it arrived Tuesday. I had it up and running within 15 minutes (I'm a slow reader!). Cracking product, cracking service, what more can one want?
Robert Killington, West Sussex - Dec '05
visitor avatar Thank you Firebox, you have a winner here. I was spending a fortune on phone calls and texts to my daughter in Italy. Now I phone her land-line at a vastly reduced rate. As soon as I set her up with one too, it will be reduced still further - to nothing in fact. I did a lot of research before buying and your SKYPE phone came out tops. It was also ridiculously easy to set up. PS thanks for the sweeties. Cheers, Michael.
Michael Risebro, Lowestoft In Sunny Suffolk - Dec '05
visitor avatar I have had my Cyberphone now for about six months and would recommend it to anyone. Very simple to set up and use. I speak to my brother-in-law in Washington every week - speech clarity every bit as good as normal landline.
Martin Cairney, Airdrie, Scotland. - Sep '05
visitor avatar I've just subscribed to SkypeIn and this phone works perfectly with it. Skype software is a bit slow to connect but the phone itself is easy to set up and easy to use. No problems whatsoever.
