Mini MP3 players are currently all the rage, especially those of the credit card-sized, touch-sensitive, funky-coloured variety. If you think we're about to start waxing lyrical about one of the most impressive little music machines on the market, you'd be right. But it's probably not the one you're thinking of. Because without wishing to upset the Apple cart, we believe the superbly chic Creative Zen Micro is right up there with the cream of the competition.
For starters, the sub Mini-sized Micro fits an impressive 6GB of tunes. That means it can hold up to 3,000 songs in WMA format or 1,500 in MP3 format. Also, there's no need to go round in circles with the Zen Micro's intuitive Vertical Touch Pad, as it's designed to let you navigate through your music via a simple up/down movement.
But wait, there's more; the clever people at Creative have somehow managed to shoehorn an FM radio with 32 presets into the Micro's gorgeously ergonomic casing. So, in the unlikely event you ever get bored of your own playlists, you can listen to Dr Fox's, Pete Tong's or Terry Wogan's. If you want.
One of the Zen Micro's greatest features has to be its rechargeable, removable (yes, removable!) battery. Capable of delivering an incredible 12 hours of continuous playback, this ingenious slice of lithium-ion is easy to swap with another fully charged battery, so you'll never run out of juice on the move.
And if all that doesn't have you reconsidering your mini MP3 player options, how about USB 2.0 connectivity for lightning fast transfers, 8 preset EQ settings, an ultra-sexy backlit screen with a mesmerizing blue glow, a mini-organizer ( calendar, address book and to-do list ), data storage facility, sleep timer/alarm, plus a built-in microphone that enables you to store voice memos or record directly from the Micro's radio.

Available in 4 funky colours the Zen Micro comes complete with Creative MediaSource software - an idiot proof package that allows you to organise your music and effortlessly convert your CDs to MP3 or WMA format. You can also create playlists and drag and drop songs in an instant.
So what's the catch? Quite honestly there isn't one, because the Zen Micro is a wallet friendly price and its sonic prowess is music to the ears. In fact, if you're thinking that the Zen Micro sounds utterly amazing, it is and it does!

It's brilliant, it's just so small. I haven't even filled up a quarter of its full capacity. I was thinking about an iPod but the Zen micro just beats it in every aspect. A must buy.Joe, Bristol - Apr '06
OMGosh...wow...so shocked at the size. (So small =D) I bought this product because my crappy iPod mini decided to not work...>. > I like the fuctions on this Micro Zen, the FM radio is a nifty little add on. Looks very durable and the 6GB compare to my iPod's 4GB is a bonus! Like in over reviews, the touchpad needs some getting used to. Audio quality seems much better than the iPods. But other than that highly recommended this gadget!! Oh and thanks for the sweets! What a treat! x
PS. The blue backlight is enough to make anyone horny x)! Phwoar!Katie-Leigh, West Midlands - Oct '05
Bought this for my daughter for her 14th birthday and she is thrilled with it!! We are Napster members so she has been able to download all her fave hits by dragging and dropping straight onto her system. It is absolutely brill. I WANT ONE NOW !!! By the way thanx for the sweets x x.Hayley Newton, Norfolk - Sep '05
I've had my Creative Zen Micro for over 6 months now and I've not regretted it. To start with when I read other reviews about how tiny it was I must say I didn't believe them, however it is TINY!!! However the nifty little 'shell' type case that the Zen Micro fits into help keep it safe, without losing any of the style. It's a fab little MP3 player, with the added bonus of a built in radio which is always handy if you get bored of the 500 odd songs you've already got stored on the thing (believe me 5GB holds a LOT of music). The DJ feature is also handy because it lets you listen to the most popular songs or to the bearly heared songs, which is always nice. Many a time I've gone to the bearly heared songs options and said to myself 'oh yeah! I forgot this song was on here!'. The only thing I've got to complain about, and this isn't really a complaint but I thought I might metion it, was the guide book. It's very very simple, and dosn't really explain much to you in detail, however the MP3 player is so easy to navigate that you just end up finding your own way around anyway! I think that there is a fuller instruction manual on the CD, so don't let that put you off! All in all this MP3 player is top notch, and I'm so glad I went for the Creative Zen Micro instead of another more popular brand (no need to mention names!). Also I've got the Pink version which is beautiful!Princessparkle, Array - Aug '05
When this gorgeous little gadget arrived I was surprised at exactly how small it was. It's tiny, but full of features. For those of you undecided… This little gem should win.
For a start you get 5GB of memory, iPod Mini's are only 4GB and cost more!!! (I hear that Apple have just brought out a 6GB version, but imagine what that'll cost!) And, here's the clincher, because you can use the WMA format on your Zen you can store twice as many tracks. According to their site, a 6GB iPod can hold 1,500 tracks, my Zen is 1GB smaller, but can hold up to 2,500 tracks. Amazing!
Mine also came with a spare battery, something you won't get with iPod, because their batteries are built-in, meaning that when the battery's wearing out, so is your player.
Another extra that you get with the Zen Micro, is an FM radio. I don't use mine much, but it's there if I get bored of my own selections.
I've had mine a couple of months now and still haven’t filled its capacity. I just keep pulling out old CD’s and sticking them on to try and fill it up. I'm hearing stuff I loved and had forgotten about.
I simply can't fault this player and would urge anyone to buy one over an iPod any day.
I've had mine since December 2004 with no problems.Sandy Watson, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK - Jul '05
I think the Mirco Zen is pretty much the best MP3 around...I've had it since about January; the frustating thing is, I have 364 songs on it, and it hasn't made a dent in the memory!Francesca, Plymouth - May '05
Wow! I have had my Zen for just over a month, and I have noticed I use it everyday. I have stored all my songs onto it, and I just love it! The organiser is great and I never forget important dates. Cheers Firebox for this great product! Definitely shopping with you again!Matthew Wilson, Barrow-in-Furness - Apr '05
I think the Zen Micro is great. I just got it today and the sound is excelent! It is also so small which is the best thing about it. This is deffently a 10/10. Forget the ipod, get the Zen Micro!Ricky, Buckinghamshire - Apr '05
I've had my Zen for a few months now and it still impresses me (and others!) stuff the i-pod, the zens on fire! :-)Nicky, Portsmouth, England - Mar '05
This player's certainly nifty, my brother has an ipod mini and i love rubbing it in his face that this is cheaper, smaller (height wise) and has more features.Paul, Middlesbrough - Feb '05
