Assistant Accountant
Firebox.com is looking for an Assistant Accountant to fill a new role in our expanding finance department. You’ll get involved in everything from the nitty-gritty day to day tasks right up to producing management accounts. You’ll need to have some accounting experience, and perhaps be part-qualified. A background in online retail would also be a big advantage.
There will be some basic book-keeping on both purchase and sales ledger, which will help you quickly get the hang of our chart of accounts and nominal ledger. You’ll perform the daily bank and payment reconciliations, making sure we know exactly where the money is coming from and going to. You’ll also keep a close eye on all the items entered to Sage to ensure our accounting records are accurate and up to date.
You’ll help with producing the management accounts each month. You’ll also help the Head of Finance work on budget and cashflow models. For these, Excel skills will be vital. There are likely to be requests for other bits of ad hoc reporting and analysis required along the way, so we’d like you to be flexible and resourceful enough to deal with these.
And because this is Firebox we expect you to be a pitch-in kind of person who loves a challenge and is willing to go the extra mile.
So, just to re-cap, we need someone who:
- Has previous accountancy experience, ideally in online retail.
- Is experienced with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Has experience with Sage, or similar accounting software.
- Communicates brilliantly in person, by email, and over the phone.
- Can organise and prioritise their own work and get on with things.
- Has fantastic attention to detail.
- Is great with numbers.
- Has a can-do attitude.
You'll be based in our somewhat chaotic Head Office in Streatham Hill, surrounded by lots of toys and gadgets, reporting to the Head of Finance and working in a team of three.
